Choosing the correct cable to tether your camera to your computer can seem like a daunting task, but it really is quite easy. The cable connecting your camera directly to your computer is referred to as a Primary cable. Tether Tools has a Search By Camera tool located at the top of our website that will help you select the correct Primary cable for your tethering needs.
The first thing you need to know is the type of port on your computer to which you will be connecting.
Is it USB-A or USB-C?
Next, you need to know what port your camera has. You can check the camera’s technical specifications or you can use the Search by Camera feature which takes the guesswork out of it. Just select your camera manufacturer and select the camera model and your cable choices will be shown.
That’s it! You have just selected the Primary Cable you need to start tethering.
What’s next? You definitely want to consider protecting your camera port and cable by using one of our cable management solutions. Personally, I use the TetherBlock the most, but I always have a few JerkStopper Camera Support in my kit. More on securing your cable in an upcoming post.
