TetherBoost™ USB 3.0 Core Controller is designed to boost and regulate power from a DSLR camera and/or Digital Back.  TetherBoost provides enough consistent power to maintain a stable, reliable connection when a camera is connected to a computer via USB cables. Below are technical specifications on how we achieve this:

  • TetherBoost is a highly-compatible, high performance USB 3.0 controller
  • Contains a USB 3.0 Super Speed transmitter/receiver physical layer (PHY) and a USB 2.0 High-Speed PHY
  • Supports Super Speed, Hi-Speed, and Full-Speed USB connections and is fully backward compatible to all USB 2.0 and USB 1.1 hosts
  • Implements multiple transaction translator (TT) architecture which provides dedicated data to each downstream port, guaranteeing full speed data at each port
  • Compliant with USB Specification Revision 3.0
  • Compliant with USB Battery Charging Revision v1.2
  • On-chip 8-bit micro-processor

    Really interested to know if using the tetherboost with AC power would give out enough power for e.g IQ250 to power itself (turning on slow battery charging)?

    Have you done any tests yet?

    Yes that was what I meant. One of the biggest drawbacks of USB3 is that without external power the batteries drain like mad… I normally go through at least 10 batteries a day. If it provided some extra juice and slowed down the discharging process, this would have been amazing. I guess I’ll wait and see!
