Many computers have trouble tethering with USB 3.0 connections. Tethering connections rely on power from the camera and/or computer to transfer images successfully. Under USB3 specifications you should be able to go 3’ without any issues. However many computer manufacturers are not building USB3 ports to USB.org specifications in order to conserve power.
