Watch now as Los Angeles photographer and Tether Tools Pro Courtney Dailey gives us a behind-the-scenes look into a creative product styling for January Labs.

I would describe my style of photography as…

I would describe my style of photography as colorful, feminine, and clean. I am a commercial beauty photographer, so I try to keep my work as marketable as possible for my target demographic. I love shooting skincare cosmetics and hair care, so having that very polished fresh look to my work is very important to me.

How did you get started with tethered photography?

Several years back I had a commercial client request I shoot tethered.  To be honest, at that moment I literally had to Google “how do you shoot tethered”. After a great deal of research, blog reading and conversations, I made my first low-budget tether kit. Once I saw the advantage of having my client see the work on the screen as we shot I literally never looked back.

My dream gig would be…

My dream gig would be shooting a beauty campaign, that was advertised in Vogue. I love the thrill of being at the airport in looking through magazines and finding my work.

My favorite piece of gear is…

This is going to sound so lame, but I highly appreciate my Pocket Wizards. I know, I know, I could’ve said how amazing my camera is or how gorgeous my tamron glasses, because it is truly. But recently I had a great deal of my gear stolen, including my Pocket Wizards. I thought to myself “no problem, I’ll just shoot with the sync cord” and I nearly lost my mind in about 10 minutes of wrestling with that cord.

My favorite piece of Tether Tools gear is…

I absolutely love the Tether Table Aero. I use it all the time whether I’m tethering, teaching or just need a place to put my camera during a shoot. It’s pretty handy!

The best advice I can offer a fellow photographer would be…

Stay true to your vision, don’t let others influence your eye. For years it seems like everyone had something to say about my work both constructive and not constructive. I took some of the constructive feedback and utilized and it was great, however, if I had taken the non-constructive feedback to heart, I would have the healthy studio I run today.
