Aperture 3 enables you to use tethered shooting, meaning images are captured directly into your computer from your camera. Not all cameras support tethered shooting, and those that do may need to be set up in different ways to enable this functionality. Consult your camera’s documentation for specific settings.

For information on tethered shooting with Aperture 2, see Aperture 2: Tips on tethered shooting.

The following points should be kept in mind:

  • The minimum requirements for tethered shooting with Aperture 3 are Aperture 3.0.3 and Mac OS X v10.6.4.
  • Cameras not supported by Aperture for tethered shooting may be supported by their own software.
  • Some cameras support both remote computer control and camera control of the shutter with tethered shooting, others may support only one or the other.
  • When capturing via tether, images are written to the computer only.
  • It is recommended that you turn your camera off/on when changing between different software that supports tethered shooting.
